5a7 – How to Lose Your Anime Boys in Eleven Days: a Primer on Otome Games in English

TAG is proud to invite you for a series of 5 a 7 showcasing its stellar members’ ongoing research.

Magister Sarah Christina Ganzon ’s talk will focus on otome games in English. It will situate this emerging category of games, and touch upon its continual fluctuation as it is being co-defined amongst players worldwide. She will further expound on the genre by touching on some of its central topics:

  • players’ discourse surrounding this category (ie. Otome games vs. dating sims) and its history outside Japan
  • representations of femininity and masculinity
  • fan labor and localization
  • gendering and popular platforms for otome games: mobile, PS Vita, PC
