Happy New Year, friends!

LEVEL UP is hitting the ground running with a workshop from our own Amanda Tom that will take place on Monday, January 18th from 6-8PM in EV 11.425!

This workshop is a beginner’s introduction to Unity, and will be a basic crash course to create a simple 2D platform game. We will be coding in C#, and familiarizing ourselves with the basics of Unity’s interface.

IN THIS WORKSHOP, YOU WILL LEARN TO:

  • Familiarize yourself with the Unity interface, and the scripting logic
  • Create a simple game with basic character controls, object collisions and physics, score keeping, and start and end screens.
  • We’ll also show you how you can build your games so that others can play them online!

No coding experience necessary! Some familiarity with Unity or programming logic would be helpful.

Requirements:

  • Bring a laptop with Unity 5 already installed.

Amanda Tom is a computer science student with a specialization in computer games. She has a deep interest in narratives, which has been the focus in most of her latest games. She is a Critical Hit alumni, where she made (un)done: a two-player game about falling in and out of love by tying and untying ropes on wearable capes.
