5a7 – The Game Clinic: The PLAYground for E-health

TAG is proud to invite you for a series of 5 à 7 showcasing its stellar members’ ongoing research.

Joining us this coming week is Najmeh Khalili-Mahani, a graduate of Mel-Hoppenheim School of Cinema, and a biomedical engineer and Neuroscientist. She has recently joined TAG, to explore the question of Games and Health from a phenomenological and psychopharmacological perspective.

Computer games are potents psychophysiological stimuli, she posits. We know this because for years, health researchers have been trying to assess their adverse effects, and have repeatedly shown a strong association between psychological stress, and screen addiction, especially in younger men. But is there another side to the story? What can we learn from the psychophysiology of screen addiction that can help us turn the page and make it into a tool for learning, and emotional stimulation?

She will talk about two upcoming projects, “Gaming Grannies” and “Play the Pain”, which aim to apply theories of Stress to Game design. She will also talk about the potential of this approach for product design and research in digital healthcare.
