April 25 5a7 Research Symposium

Posted by Carolyn

This week we’ll be deciding the fate of the 5a7 Research Symposium, at least for the summer, at 4:30pm in the 11th floor TAG lab. All those interested in adding their two cents and/or helping out with the organization of the 5a7s are invited. On the agenda are the time/day/frequency of the 5a7, “plan B” events, and hopefully a draft schedule showing who will be on duty and when.

This 5a7 will also be a goodbye party for our good friend Leif Penzendorfer. Leif is into haptics so aside from the party hats you should probably also bring party gloves, party rumble paks, party touchscreens, etc.

At 5pm there will be a short presentation by Angelique Mannella about a hackathon she’s organizing the first weekend of June called Random Hacks of Kindness. More details below:

Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) Hackathon: June 1-3 2012
Worldwide we spend three billion hours each week playing games. What if all this game play was used to increase awareness, educate, drive action, and most importantly solve key issues affecting your community or the world?

This marathon hackathon is all about hacking games for social good.

UNICEF will join us, in addition to Playmob, an innovative startup from the UK focused on giving through games.

Bring your questions and suggestions on how to make this event RHoK!

Decode Global: Incubating Games for Social Good
In June 2012, young game developers, designers, artists from Ukraine, Brazil, Finland, Canada, and the US will all congregate in Montreal to design and publish a game for social good.

We’re currently looking to recruit a couple more people for this project!

When: Wednesday, April 25, 5pm-7pm, meeting at 4:30pm
Who: Anyone is welcome, please feel free to bring friends or colleagues who might be interested.
