5a7 – Haptic games: research-creation with Vibropixels

TAG is proud to invite you for a series of 5 à 7 showcasing its stellar members’ ongoing research.

PHD Candidate Ida Marie Toft is inviting Tagsters into the messy boiling cauldron of “Vibropixel” wizardry. The Vibropixels, developed by artist and PhD candidate Ian Hattwick, McGill University, are a modular wireless system of actuators developed for immersive multimodal art installations.

With a particular focus on the haptic senses, Magister Ida is currently working with the Vibropixels, making a game prototype and exploring possible games in the overlap between multimodal (in particular tactile) art installations and games. This 5 à 7 will focus on strategies for communicating game clues, game states, and feedback messages via light and vibration patterns exclusively. They will share with us on how constructing simple light and vibration patterns as messages with meaning precise enough for a game is no easy task, and the insights this creation process allows for.

☆ You are cordially invited to come and mingle. ☆
